Tech Tip: Troubleshooting Videos

A large part of being a technician is learning to problem-solve and troubleshoot issues that arise. The Delco Remy Tech Tip video series is a great resource for technical assistance.

Two of our most popular troubleshooting videos include:

Alternator Charging System Troubleshooting

Experiencing problems with your alternator charging system? Squealing noises under the hood. Headlight bulbs that blow out repeatedly or dim. Dash voltmeter gauges out of range—either too high or too low. These are common indicators that something may be wrong with the charging system.

This video will walk you through five steps to pinpoint potential issues:

Step 1: Perform a visual inspection
Step 2: Inspect the batteries
Step 3: Measure the voltage at the battery
Step 4: Test the alternator output
Step 5: Troubleshoot per the service manual

Diagnosing Starter Crank Problems

While cranking problems can be frustrating, identifying and correcting the root cause does not have to be. In this video, review the steps you need to follow to identify and then fix your cranking problem, depending on which category it falls into:

Slow Crank: The starter will crank; however, the engine RPM is slow to start the vehicle.
Click No-Crank: The solenoid clicks but the starter doesn’t crank.
No-Click No-Crank: The solenoid doesn’t click, and the starter doesn’t crank.
